Memorandum Submitted to the Health Minister Demanding Salary Increase for Pharmacy Assistants

The Pharmacy Association of Nepal has submitted a memorandum to the Honorable Minister for Health and Population, Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam, demanding an increase in the salaries of pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.

The Association submitted the memorandum with a specific demand to ensure a minimum salary for pharmacy assistants working in hospitals. It also called for the provision of minimum salary and service benefits for hospital-based pharmacists and assistant pharmacists.

According to the Association, while the remuneration and service benefits of nurses have been increased, pharmacists and pharmacy assistants working in the same hospitals have not received any increment in salary or benefits to date, which it described as unfair and unjust.

The memorandum states that pharmacists and pharmacy assistants play a crucial role in ensuring the safe management, distribution, and rational use of medicines, and that ignoring them while increasing the remuneration of professionals working at the same level is both regrettable and unfortunate.

The Pharmacy Association of Nepal has also urged the Health Minister to issue an official circular directing hospitals to increase salaries and service benefits for pharmacists and pharmacy assistants working in healthcare institutions.
